Close My Eyes
I recently recorded a version of Arthur Russell’s “Close My Eyes” - a song that I’ve been playing out & about at shows the past couple of years.
Like many of us record listeners I became enchanted with Arthur Russell’s posthumously released home, demo & archival recordings a number of years ago. I love playing old country waltzes, so naturally this one stuck with me and kept finding its way into my live set over & over again. Somebody at a bar in Cleveland said “You should record that one” so I did. I hope you enjoy it.
Ben Whiteley is playing the upright bass here & James Elkington is on the harmonica & lap steel guitar. It was recorded by Caleb Wright at Betty’s near Chapel Hill, NC. Mixed by Ben Whiteley, mastered by Greg Reierson. This pastel is by Fred Coulter Fussell, design / layout by Max Tauschel.
Thanks to Patrick Addison, Brian Hultgren, Martin Anderson & the crew at Betty’s.
